Dear Bruntsfield Families –

We’ve been busy planning for the year ahead, and wanted to give you an update on where we are with events.

Dates for your Diary

Saturday 29 April: Ceilidh

Organisation of the ceilidh is under way, and further details will be made available shortly.

Saturday 10 June: Summer Fair

We’ve set the date for this, so you can get it in your diaries, but what the event will look like is still wide open. We’d like to involve the children in the planning, as well as parents and teachers. If you’d like to help shape the Summer Fair and take it forward, please get in touch!

Friday 25 August: Teddy Bear’s Picnic (P1 Welcome Event)

We are looking for some current P1 parents (i.e. who will be P2 by the time of the event), to help out with this. It’s a set format with clear handover notes, so an easy event to help with.

Saturday 25 November: Winter Fair

This is still way down the line, but we’ve set the date early this year so that you can keep your calendars clear.

The Art Auction

We’d also like to bring the Art Auction back this year, but to do that we need a team of 2-3 volunteers to take on the organisation. For those who haven’t taken part before, the children, parents, teachers, even some members of the community, join in to create artwork on paper or canvas (we’ve even had some 3D art in the past). This is then displayed in an exhibition at school and people can bid for the artworks in an online auction over the course of a week.

We don’t have a fixed date yet, it could either happen as part of our Summer Fair in June or as a separate event at another date. Organisation includes collecting everyone’s artwork, prepping it for display, photographing and uploading it to the online site. We always have extra volunteers to help with the exhibition itself, but it does require a dedicated team of 2-3 people to take the reins. If you are passionate about art and would like to volunteer to help with this, please get in touch!

And finally…

We have a few other ideas for the Autumn/Winter term which we’ll share nearer the time, and there’s always room for other events and fundraisers too – if you have a great idea you would like to suggest, then please let us know.

Moving forward, we want to involve the children more in our planning, listen to what they want, and let them help shape our events. We are also committed to make our events more sustainable.

And last but not least, we are looking for another new events & fundraising officer to join the team – maybe it could be you! Please email [email protected] if you are interested.

Best wishes,
Bruntsfield Parent Council
