We hope you have had a good start to term, and for those of you who are new to the school community, that you and your children are finding a warm welcome at Bruntsfield!

It was great to see so many faces at the Parent Council meeting on Wednesday 24 August, and to hear from our new headteacher, Mr Gilhooley. Many families will be particularly pleased to hear of his plans to get parents back in to school more. Some of the P1 parents have already attended a Meet the Teacher event, and further Meet the Teacher events for the rest of P1, and for P2 to P7, have been announced for the 13 & 14 September.

We were able to host our first Parent Council event back in the school building, with our Teddy Bear Picnic on Friday 26 August which gave our P1 families a chance to meet each other and their teachers. Thank you to the team of volunteers who made this happen, and to the enthusiastic P7s who helped on the day! Thanks also to the Clubs team, who have launched an even more comprehensive schedule of activities than last year! Find out more in the Clubs section of our website.

Save the Date!

Our next Parent Council meeting will be in person at the school on Tuesday 27 September. This is also our Annual General Meeting, during which we need a few roles to be filled!

If you want to volunteer or get more involved in order to ensure the Parent Council can continue to run clubs, organise events, and represent the parent community, please get in touch and volunteer.

At the AGM we need to elect a Chair, Secretary and Health & Safety Officer. We are also looking for further support with fundraising and events. You can find out more about the roles here on our website.

We have also included useful information below from Connect (the Scotland wide body which supports parental involvement in schools) if you would like to read in more detail about how Parent Councils can function.

The Parent Council is here to support the school in its work with our children, and to support connections between parents, the school, the local authority, and the community. We are always keen to hear from you about your ideas, interests and priorities, and we are nothing without our volunteers. You help run our clubs and events, organise school uniform donations, and keep the playground plants alive over the summer, and more, thank you!

More details to follow about the AGM, but for now, please save the date: 7.30pm, Tuesday 27th September, in the school.

All the very best for September.
