Group Chess Classes

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to be able to offer small online group chess classes. I have been offering these throughout the summer holidays and they have been very popular. Chess can easily be done online and is a fantastic way to keep children occupied. It has also been shown to improve cognitive abilities. Some more information:

What: Small group classes for one hour. A typical class will involve solving puzzles, receiving some tuition from myself and then playing against one another in a short tournament. While the children are playing against one another I will be commentating, watching their matches and assessing what they can work on to improve. I will do my best to pair children with their friends but also of similar skill level so that the matches are fair.

How: Classes will use Zoom/Teams and Lichess or Chessity. Both are completely free to use. Lichess has a “Kid mode” which means all they can do is play chess – no messaging allowed. Chessity will be used with children that are newer to chess. Chessity is an online resource that teaches children how to play chess step by step. The children will share their screens and I will be able to help them when they have any questions.

Who: For children in Primary 3/4/5/6/7 & Secondary School.

When: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. To see the time slots and to sign up please use this form.

Cost: It will be £6 a class. Sign up will be monthly so roughly £24 for the month.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
