There have been a lot of discussions about how to safely go guising or trick-or-treating this year. Of course, it’s not up to us to dictate to anyone how to celebrate Halloween, but in the interest of keeping our community safe it may be better to ditch going from door to door altogether this year. Here are some fun alternative ideas on how to safely celebrate Halloween in and around Bruntsfield.

Pumpkin Spotting Walk
Put a pumpkin in your window (either a carved pumpkin, or get the kids to draw a pumpkin picture to hang up), and invite all your friends to do the same.
Then on the night, dress up and go for a walk around your neighbourhood, keeping a safe distance from other people and from front doors. For every pumpkin you spot in someone’s window, pop a treat in to your child’s bag.
Maddie & Marks Halloween Hunt
Pick up a leaflet from Maddie & Marks Shoes on Bruntsfield Place, detailing the Halloween monsters you are searching for, then walk around Brunstfield and make a note of which shop windows you find each of them in.
Hand in your completed form to get a wee sweet treat and get entered into a prize draw to win a Halloween hamper.
Maddie and Marks is open Monday – Saturday 9.30-5.30 and 11-5 Sunday. The Halloween Hunt is available until 28th October.
McLarens on the Corner Pumpkin Hunt
Follow the McLarens blue pumpkins around Bruntsfield, between 2pm – 7pm on Saturday 31st October, then claim a treat at the end. There is no need to sign up and there is no cost involved in the McLaren’s Pumpkin Hunt. All you need is a mobile device to follow the route. Starting point is Bruntsfield Links.

Online Halloween Party for Kids
Saturday 31st October, 4:30-6:30pm
Hosted by Claire and Cassandra, two talented parents from our school. Artist Cassandra (who also created the school image on our new Parent Community website) will kick off the party with an hour creating wonderful art and spooky props. Then after a short break to sort out your costume and grab a snack, Claire from 3Theatre (who also runs our ballet and ‘Smile!’ after school clubs) will delight you with some spooky antics and games before you boogie away in a Halloween disco.
Tickets are only £15 per household, so the whole family can join in. Tickets can be booked via Eventbrite.
Haunted Concert Hall
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Children’s Classic Concerts have taken their annual Halloween family concert online. They will be streaming the ‘Haunted Concert Hall’ from 2pm on Saturday 31st October, which will then be available for 30 days.
“We’ve not just gone digital, we’ve really tried to step outside of the box to explore a multi-dimensional presentation – you won’t just see and hear the (socially-distanced) orchestra on stage, there’s much more to it than that, but no spoilers!”
