Dear Parents and Carers
And so we have reached the end of another month and tomorrow is the first day of meteorological summer. I don’t know about you, but the last ten weeks have been a challenge. Some days are like freewheeling down the Mound and others in first gear struggling to get half way up it !
By now you will have heard that the Scottish Government have confirmed that all schools in Scotland will start back on the 11th August. However, we are still awaiting more information and guidance from the Council as to what this looks like for Edinburgh and how this will translate for Bruntsfield. Whatever the return looks like, it is clear that blended learning – a mix of home and school – will be with us for some time and that the return to school will not be ‘normal’.
In bringing us a degree of normality, huge thanks to Fiona for putting together the virtual art auction and please get creative and submit an artwork for this. The Art Auction has been a great success in the past couple of years and raised fantastic sums of money. Given that we are unlikely to be able to run scale events for some time, this is a wonderful initiative and I can’t wait to see what you all produce.
As we consider what the return to schools look like, this time gives us the opportunity to stop and review our activities, give ourselves renewed focus and get ourselves ‘fit’ for the academic year ahead.
A number of our office bearers are due to reach the end of their period of office and accordingly, in order to keep functioning, we are looking for new volunteers to step up and help run the Parent Council. You don’t need to have tonnes of experience in any one area – just a willingness to get involved and a desire to make things better. As I have mentioned before, I’m really keen to get some better representation from the lower school to make sure that we don’t forget that the needs of year groups differ greatly. Many of the roles can also be shared so if you and a friend or partner want to take a ‘team’ role, this would be very welcome.
